  • How long have you been on your hair journey?

Over 4 years.

  • Why did you decide to start your hair journey and why did you choose to be (Natural/Relaxed/Texlaxed)?

I wanted extra long hair. I have a sensitive scalp and type 4b/c hair aka ‘tough hair’. My scalp couldn’t take over 5mins of relaxer without burning and my hair needed about 25mins to straighten. So I got tired of painful relaxer jobs and quit relaxers without much knowledge about natural hair.

  • What major challenges/setbacks did you face?

The first two years was a huge learning curve. I relied on heat a lot and suffered split ends and breakage. I ended up cutting off all that.

  • How do people react to your hair?

I can still remember the first time I wore my hair out. It was an updo with an afro bun at Cardiff. I got a lot of looks and compliments too.

I get ‘mixed reviews’ in Nigeria. I’ve spent about 15mins discussing natural hair care with people I’ve just met. I’ve also had people ask if it’s a religious thing. Ha ha.

  • What is your current hair regimen?

I try to wash and deep condition every 10-14days. I re moisturize with water and apply my leave in conditioner and shea butter mix.

I also deep condition with a heat cap after wearing braids or weaves.

  • What do you plan to achieve next, and how?

I want to wear my hair out often. I’m learning more hairstyles that show off my natural hair and is protective at the same time. I’m also trying to teach the stylist at my regular salon how to work with natural hair

  • Do you have any hair crushes?

Kim ( Kimmaytube) Nikki ( and many more.
